So much of the conversation surrounding gender equality and diversity can feel overwhelming, negative and frankly scary. Big Ideas offers an opportunity to break free of this cycle of negativity, dream big and
explore positive solutions to difficult challenges. The WOW Big Ideas programme was co-curated with Children’s Capital of Culture, amplifying the voices of our future.

Making Spaces: Conversations for Change

In a year where the gender pay gap remained at a negative 0.5% from women aged 18-21 years old, 41% of UK girls aged 14 to 17 in an intimate relationship experienced some form of sexual violence from their partner, and young people aged 14-16 are more likely than any other age group to report gender diversity – what does gender equality actually look like? Pupils from Brinsworth Academy, Maltby Academy and Winterhill Primary banded together in the safe spaces they designed and built in partnership with sustainable design studio U-Build and tackled this challenge head on to create a vision of gender equal future.
