Cherry Seraph is the solo alt-pop electronic project of queer producer, artist and multi-instrumentalist Sophie Russell.

Cherry’s sound is what she would class as ‘ethereal alt-pop’. She primarily uses Ableton Live, Push 2 and more recently a Korg synthesiser in her performances but comes from a classical woodwind background originally (flute and saxophone).

Cherry began to produce in 2020 whilst finishing her degree in Politics and had produced and released her first EP by 2021. In 2022, she had her first support from BBC Introducing. 2023 saw her first intimate live gig in Paris and has since continued performing in Bradford, Leeds (including Oporto and Sofar Sounds), Wakefield (Tileyard North) and Sheffield (Sidney & Matilda).

Beyond BBC Introducing, Cherry has received support from Plastic Magazine (“soul-stirring vocals”), Obscure Sound, Jarred Up (“reminiscent of The Japanese House”) and offers for coverage from Earmilk. She has recently returned from Battery Studios in London through support from Help Musicians, was selected as the January artist in residence at LBU, was coined in March by Leeds’ own Crash Records as ‘The Next Big Thing’ and is also now funded through Youth Music Next Gen for her next release.
